What is ABA and IBI?

IBI:

Intensive: Children can receive between 21-25 hours of individualized 1:1 therapy per week from a professional. Therapy will cover a variety of skills and work on those skills concurrently.

Behavioural: In the behavioural therapy world, the term “behavioural” refers to the focus on increasing, decreasing or eliminating a specific behaviour. We want to increase behaviours that are socially significant while, decrease and eliminate behaviours that are undesirable.

Intervention: This type of therapy is considered a reputable and evidence-based treatment because it is both data driven, and shows generalization across various environments.

ABA:

Applied: Behavioural goals should provide significance to the individual’s life and those that surround them.

Behavioural: In addition to increasing, decreasing and eliminating behaviours, we must always focus on behaviours that are observable and measurable. We must be able to track and compare measurements of behaviour in order to create change.

Analysis: In the ABA world, we are data driven. We use data to determine the relationships between the environment and behaviour. Only after analyzing data can we decide how to change it.
